Maldison 50 Insecticide

The active ingredient in Maldison 50, Malathion, kills insects by preventing their nervous system from working properly. When healthy nerves send signals to each other, a special chemical messenger travels from one nerve to another to continue the message. The nerve signal stops when an enzyme is released into the space between the nerves. Malathion binds to the enzyme and prevents the nerve signal from stopping. This causes the nerves to signal to each other without stopping. The constant nerve signals make it so the insects can’t move or breathe normally and they die.  Malathion is highly toxic to bees and other beneficial insects, some fish, and other aquatic life. Malathion is moderately toxic to other fish and birds and is considered low in toxicity to mammals.

Animal Situation: Dogs (over 3 months)

Rate: 50mL per 10L Water

Critical Comments: Saturate the animal. Repeat in 7 days. Use the residue for spraying bedding etc. Do not immerse the animal.

Rate: 500mL/8L Water

Critical Comments: Paint onto roosts. The above applications should be repeated 8-14 days later to destroy lice hatching from eggs present in the first treatment.

Critical Comments: Treat the walls, nesting boxes and roosts of poultry houses very thoroughly with a pressure sprayer, paying particular attention to cracks and crevices in timber where the ticks hide.

Critical Comments: Thoroughly spray all pigs and sheds

Critical Comments: To spray 10 horses (ie 2 L of spray per horse)

Rate: 1L per 100L Water (High Volume Application)

Critical Comments: Spraying at the rate of 4.5 L per head is usually enough.

Rate: 500mL/40L (High Volume Application) or 250mL/20L (alternative application) 

Critical Comments: The addition of sugar or molasses to the spray will result in a better kill.

Rate: 1L per Ha (10,000sqm) (High Volume Application)

Critical Comments: Dilute with water as required. Treat breeding areas as soon as larvae are seen.
